Ultragold set for Cheltenham prep on route to Randox Health Grand National at Aintree

Aintree specialist Ultragold is set to use the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival as the stepping-stone towards the 1-million pounds Randox Health Grand National at Aintree.

Statement from Arena Racing Company and National Trainers Federation

ARC and the National Trainers Federation (NTF) are pleased to announce that, to allow further constructive discussions between the two parties, ARC will commit to unlock all eligible races for March. ARC can confirm that the cost of this unlocking will not be taken from elsewhere within ARCs race programme, but the NTF are content that the sum be reduced to reflect the estimated 55,000 pounds impact of unsupported races at Lingfield Park and Sedgefield.

The betting markets for Cheltenham have really started to firm up over the last few weeks, with the likes of the Arkle and Stayers Hurdle getting a market leader, Le Richebourg and Paisley Park respectively, that looks like staying there. However, for some big-name horses, the bookies have decided to act, pulling down odds of horses who looked like they would be in the mix a couple of months ago. Injuries can play a role, of course, but there are also some who have left punters and trainers scratching their heads.

A total of 58 horses have been entered for the 50th running of The Marstons 61 Deep Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter Racecourse on Saturday 16 March 2019. The feature race of the season at Uttoxeter, will be run over 4 mile 2 furlongs and has a total prize fund of 150,000 pounds.

At a BHA Board meeting last night, ARC Chief Executive Martin Cruddace and Anne Duffield (representing the NTF) agreed that ARC would fully unlock all relevant races for a period of one month while all parties continue to work towards a resolution of this issue.
Revised and more accessible Rules of Racing to be implemented from 1 September
