Regent’s Stroll Smashes NH HIT World Record at Doncaster Summer Sale

The Goffs Summer Sale looked well primed to make headlines at Doncaster today with the Chris Giles Dispersal shaping as a special offering and it lived up to the hype with the unbeaten Regent’s Stroll setting a new world record for a NH horse-in-training when selling for £660,000.

Regent’s Stroll sells to Tom Malone and Paul Nicholls for £660,000 – a world record for a NH horse-in-training.

Unbeaten in two starts including the world’s richest bumper, the £100,000 Goffs Spring Sale Bumper, the Paul Nicholls trained Regent’s Stroll (Lot 67) was well fancied to top the Summer Sale. Bidding was kicked off by Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent, who was bidding for a client on the phone, at £400,000 and it was Tom Malone, standing with Paul Nicholls and John Hales, who traded bids across the ring until Malone landed the winning blow of £660,000.

The Chris Giles Dispersal, all offered by Mill House Stud, saw all 11 horses sold for a total of £1.9 million with Paul Nicholls and Tom Malone securing eight of the lots, all for new owners. The pair also went to £200,000 to secure last year’s Grade 2 Scottish Champion Hurdle winner Rubaud (Lot 65) as well as the unraced Blue Bresil 4YO Rocket Scientist (Lot 73). They also partnered with Dave Staddon to land the Cheltenham Festival’s Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle winner Stay Away Fay (Lot 72) for £325,000.

French Grade 1 winning mare July Flower is sold for £350,000 to Henry De Bromhead.

Another to feature in today’s sale was the French Grade 1 winning mare July Flower (Lot 96) who was also offered by Mill House Stud. Winner of the Grade 1 Prix Jacques de Vienne, she placed third in her most recent outing in the Grade 1 Grande Course de Haies d'Auteuil and was knocked down to Henry De Bromhead for £350,000.

“What an incredible day in Doncaster and we must start by thanking Chris Giles for entrusting Goffs to handle such a prestigious dispersal of quality horses. It has been a pleasure to work for Chris and we hope to see his colours back in the winners’ enclosure in the not-too-distant future. It has also been a pleasure to work with Juliet Minton and the Mill House Stud team who did such a fantastic job of presenting the horses for sale.

“We are obviously delighted with the results, headlined by Regent’s Stroll’s world record price of £660,000. We felt he had a right to make a significant price but you can never expect a result like that and it proves, yet again, that when we are given the best, Doncaster produces world class, world record results.

“We received a huge amount of interest for today’s sale, and it was great to see so many of the leading owners and trainers in Doncaster which helped to create an electric atmosphere inside the sales ring. We would also like to acknowledge the underbidders for their part in creating these prices and it’s nice to see many of the horses sold returning to the same stables to run in new colours.

“We also saw the French Grade 1 winner July Flower sold for £350,000, another fantastic price, so all in all it has been a very successful sale and we wish the very best of luck to everyone with their new purchases.”
