HAMILTON PARK review  By Gordon Brown

Capital Theory stayed on well to land the £30,000 Buttonhook Handicap on Hamilton Park’s opening fixture of the year.

Ridden by Joe Fanning and trained by Charlie Johnston, the 11/4 chance was an impressive four and a half length winner over Euchen Glen. “That a nice, improved performance and we might come back here for something like the Braveheart Handicap later in the month,” said proud winning owner Dr Jim Walker.

“It was another fine ride by Joe and he know this track so well.”Richard Fahey-trained Airman, who holds a Group 1 entry at Royal Ascot, made most the running under David Nolan in the Darley Stallions EBF Novice Stakes to pip well-backed Irish raider Gaenari by a neck.

“He was a little bit keen but it was a good performance,” the winning jockey said. “I pretty much rode to the draw from stall one and we managed to nick alight or two running into the dip. I’d saw he should come on for the race and could have a pretty decent season ahead of him.”

Giselles Izzy won over the minimum trip of five-furlongs for the first time as she gained a narrow victory in the Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker Foundation 10th Annversary Handicap for Andrew Mullen.

“She likes it here as she now won three races at Hamilton,” said successful trainer in Jardine.

“I’m pleased for her Stirling-based owners and I suppose we’ll keep coming back.” Jardine and Mullen went on to complete a double after Catherine Chroi followed her recent Ayr success in the con concluding 6f handicap.
