KELSO preview

By Gordon Brown

The famous ‘double green’ colours of Simon Munir and Isaac Souede are well to the fore in the £50,000 feature race at Kelso on Wednesday.

Twelve horses, including the pair’s Lily Du Berlais and Brucio, both trained in Ireland by Stuart Crawford, have been declared for the Herring Queen Series Final Mares’ Handicap Hurdle, which has been re-scheduled from an abandoned card last month.

Fergal O’Brien-trained Politacus is on a hat-trick following handicap wins at Huntington and Hereford in March and April while Lucinda Russell’s Spit Spot flies the flag for Scotland.

Dan Skelton, who amassed almost £3 million in total prize money last season when a close runner-up to Willie Mullins in the trainers’ championship, has three runners on the eight-race card including Frere d’Armes in the Bedmax Handicap Chase.

The Warwickshire raider has been slipping down the weights from a peak mark of 136, which he was placed off last spring. Also re-scheduled is he £30,000 Racing Post Go North Jodami Series Final Open National Hunt Flat Race.

Kingston James, trained by Lucinda Russell, and Sandy Thomson’s Dedicated Hero could fight out the finish as they both posted comfortable wins last time.
